Documents
Upload, find, and keep matter files with the case not lost in email.
Joshira’s document area is a matter vault: pleadings, evidence, orders, and drafts live with the case so the team can retrieve them without hunting through inboxes.
Why this matters
Email attachments are easy to lose, hard to version, and invisible to the next person on the file. Uploading to the case means:
- The file is tied to the right matter
- Colleagues can find it without asking you
- Client portal sharing (when enabled) can point to the same source of truth
Upload a document
- Open the case.
- Go to Documents.
- Upload the file (or drag and drop, if available).
- Give it a clear name before or after upload.
If your workspace supports folders or tags, use them lightly clarity beats deep nesting.
Naming that saves time
Prefer names a stranger on your team can understand:
2026-03-12_Bail_Application.pdfOrder_2026-04-01_Adjourned.pdfClient_Affidavit_v2.docx
Avoid scan001.pdf or final_final2.pdf without context.
Best practices
- Link or upload to the case, not a personal desktop-only folder
- Prefer the vault over forwarding the same attachment chain
- After a hearing, upload the order the same day when possible
- Share to the client portal only the documents the engagement requires
Finding files later
Open the case and use Documents search or sort by date. Consistent names and hearing dates in filenames make retrieval much faster under pressure.
Security mindset (plain language)
Treat matter files as confidential. Only invite people who need access, and only share portal documents that are meant for the client. When someone leaves the firm, an admin should remove their workspace access.
Next: optionally share selected updates in Client portal.
