Managing cases
Create matters, link clients, track status, and keep ownership clear.
A case (also called a matter) is the center of work in Joshira. Hearings, documents, tasks, and timeline activity hang off the case so the team always knows which file they are looking at.
Before you create a case
Have ready:
- The client name (create the client first if they are new)
- A short title your team will recognize later
- Court or forum type, if you track it
- Who is responsible for day-to-day updates
Create a case
- Open Cases.
- Choose New (or similar).
- Attach the client.
- Enter a clear title and starting status (for example: Intake, Active, Listed, Closed).
- Save.
You can add parties, opposing counsel, and notes as you learn more. It is fine to start with the basics and complete the rest later.
Day-to-day work on a case
Keep status honest
Update status when something real changes filing done, notice received, matter settled, or closed. Status is how partners scan the list without opening every file.
Assign an owner
Make sure one person is clearly responsible, especially in hearing week. Ownership reduces “I thought you had it” moments.
Use the case as the home base
- Add hearings from the matter when you get a date
- Upload documents to the matter vault
- Write short notes after calls or board work
Avoid keeping the “real” story only in personal chat threads.
Finding cases later
Use search and filters on the Cases screen: by client, status, or keyword in the title. Consistent naming pays off here.
Common mistakes to avoid
| Mistake | Better approach |
|---|---|
| One giant case for many disputes | Split separate matters |
| No owner | Assign someone before the next listing |
| Files only in email | Upload to the case documents |
| Status never updated | Change status when the matter moves |
