Client portal
Invite clients to see selected updates, dates, and documents securely.
The client portal is a secure place where clients can view what you choose to share case updates, upcoming hearings, and selected documents without you forwarding every email.
It is not a full dump of your entire file. You stay in control of scope.
When to use the portal
Good fits:
- Clients who ask “any update?” often
- Matters with recurring listings
- Sharing a specific order or filing without WhatsApp attachment chains
Skip or delay the portal when the matter is highly sensitive and your engagement letter limits electronic sharing follow your firm policy.
Invite a client
Typical flow:
- Open the case.
- Find Portal or client access settings.
- Invite the client with their email.
- Confirm they receive the invite and can sign in.
Explain in one sentence what they will see: “Dates we share, updates we post, and documents we publish not our internal notes.”
What to share (and what not to)
| Usually share | Usually keep internal |
|---|---|
| Upcoming hearing dates you confirm | Strategy memos |
| Orders and filings meant for the client | Drafts under review |
| Short status updates | Privilege-sensitive discussion |
Day-to-day use
- After a hearing, post a short update and the next date
- Publish only the documents the client should have
- Answer portal questions with the same care you would in email
If a client should no longer have access (matter closed, engagement ended), revoke portal access for that matter.
